Compatibility (Match Score)

The match score measures how compatible a work is with a given editorial opportunity. It is calculated by the AI by analysing in parallel:

Literary genre

genre_match × 0.30

E.g. if the work is noir and the contest accepts thriller/noir → 90/100

Language

language_match × 0.25

Direct match or via AI translation

Text length

word_count_fit × 0.20

Works within optimal limits (50–150% of the range) score full marks

Themes & tone

theme_tone_fit × 0.25

Semantic analysis of the work vs. the opportunity description

Values above 75% indicate high compatibility. Below 50% the opportunity is not shown.

Success Probability (Win Probability)

The win/acceptance probability is a statistical estimate based on objective and historical factors. It is NOT a guarantee.

The final probability is rounded and normalised between 1% and 95%.

Estimated Response Time

The expected number of weeks before a response is based on average historical data by category:

Literary contests
8–16 weeks
Publishers
12–24 weeks
Literary magazines
4–12 weeks
Literary agents
6–20 weeks

These times can vary significantly. Some opportunities do not respond at all if not selected.

AI Methodology

WriterScout uses advanced language models (LLM) with access to up-to-date editorial data. The analysis flow is:

  1. Work analysis: extraction of genre, tone, themes, style and word count from the provided text.
  2. Opportunity search: querying the 2026 database with filters on language, category, active status.
  3. Semantic scoring: vector comparison between the work description and opportunity requirements.
  4. Final ranking: sorted by descending match score, limited to 3 results per category.
  5. Email generation: drafting a personalised query letter for each recipient, with style adapted to the country/language of the recipient.

All search results shown are selected and verified by the Writer Match team from trusted editorial sites, hubs and partners. The search exclusively navigates within these selected sources — it does not invent opportunities.
